Puntarenas offers nice beaches for surfing as does Guanacaste, but the further south you go into Puntarenas the more humid and less populated it is. One of the nice things about Costa Rica, is that if you are in an area where it rains too much, you can be in a dry area in a matter of a couple hours. South West Airlines has decided to open a non-stop service from LAX to Liberia airport in Guanacaste, Costa Rica (LIR).
